In the digital era innovation needs new competences to overcome industry boundaries
Large organizations are designed to be successful in sustaining their existing business: processes and procedures that are key to the success of existing businesses are the main barriers when it comes to innovation
Successful organizations hire great managers, not entrepreneurs. Managers can have great ideas but then the entrepreneurial energy is often not high enough to turn that innovative idea into an actual product
Diffusing the responsibility of innovation across the organization requires a high level of commitment and a radical cultural change, that might harm the efficiency in the core business
Focusing innovation outside the core business (not R&D projects) in the hands of selected internal teams can generate a silos effect and could make it difficult to leverage on the strengths of the large corporation
The urge to make companies more sustainable has increased the challenges in identifying the right partners to foster innovation
Externalize innovation with full control: we are an external dedicated structure that complements R&D’s competences, collaborates with BUs, enables talents to contribute to innovation, and ensures fast and agile idea development. Clients retain full control: they can decide which innovation suits their strategy and can be developed with a stage gate process. Once an idea is developed into a start-up, client organizations become shareholders with special rights to increase operations’ control and buyout Corporate Hangar at any time.
Break down compliance and political barriers: as an external innovation factory, our model allows to develop innovative solutions at the boundaries of the organization, where processes allow agile development and ideas can overcome organizational politics.

Tap into an open innovation eco-system: we are a multi-functional team of talents with expertise in business, engineering, product development, industrial design, and material science that collaborates with a network scientists and industry experts. We have solid relationships with IIT (Italian Institute of Technology), ENEA, Bocconi 4 Innovation, Statale Lab (Università Statale di Milano), Politecnico di Milano and several other organizations.
Leverage on the strengths of the large organization: we ensure a close collaboration with our client organization by supporting BUs in designing their innovation strategy; we have a direct link with the top management of the organization and we are open to have a new member of our board of directors coming from the client company; at least 1 member of the board of directors of our start-ups is appointed by the client organization to ensure full control; last – but not least - we work with talents staffed by client organizations to our innovation factory with a project-based formula. This setting allows the start-ups a smooth integration within the client organization.
